Acronym of the Day

BGO – blinding glimpse of the obvious

(From a meeting today, where I heard approximately 50 acronyms of unknown meaning.)

  1. I feel that, regardless of the audience, if you are going to use acronyms you have to tell what it is at least once to define it. I don’t care if it’s SEM, which even a lay person might know, you have to define it.

Instead, most people who do this prefer to make everyone else feel silly the whole time, trying to decode what they are saying, and writing down acronyms for later googling. I know that some people do it unintentionally, but it really does get out of hand.
